About Me


Messy Buns and Latin Chant was started to stave off the stay-at-home-mom isolation, but I quickly fell in love with writing. My little corner of the internet over here is a place to share my thoughts as a wife, mother, Catholic, and American.

I was raised in a big Catholic family on a steady diet of traditional liturgy, 4H, and homeschooling. I studied psychology and dabbled in philosophy in college, then met a handsome engineering student, and settled into domestic life. We are striving to raise our expanding family with traditional values, and end up being about half-crunchy parents most of the time. If you ask my husband what our "parenting philosophy" is, he will respond: "We don't negotiate with terrorists."

On weekends, I work as an organist at our parish, playing both the Novus Ordo and Tridentine Masses. I truly love both, but have to admit, there really isn't anything as magnificent as Gregorian Chant.

You can find me here fairly regularly and as a contributing writer for Catholicmom.com. I'm always looking for new places to write as well.

Treat your husband like a child

My husband and I celebrate our third anniversary next week. Traditionally, this is the leather anniversary. The reason being that this year, the couple begins to see how tough their marriage is and how their marriage will stand up to trials. One lesson that I have learned in three years that I believe will help my husband and I through the rest of the trials in our lives together, is that resentment can be incredibly destructive, and that it is vital not to keep score of wrongs. A few days ago, my husband did something that upset me. It wasn't out of animosity; it was simply that we had a miscommunication about priorities. We discussed it, and we both apologized; but yet, I let myself be bent out of shape for most of the day before coming to a stunning realization: I don't brood for hours when my sons annoy me.  I don't hold a grudge when they stomp on my feet, bite while nursing, throw their food, unfold the laundry, or just throw a fit over nothing.
